Triumph Sports Six Club North Devon Section Drive It Day Run 2008

We all met up at Blackmoor Gate on the edge of Exmoor at 1000hrs. Ten diverse cars and fifteen souls.

The weather was initially cold and grey, but off we went to our first stop at Exford where we took second place to more than twenty, yes twenty! 1930's vehicles (Morris Cowleys etc. galore) on their week-long tour holiday.

We had morning coffee (well, we had done about 12 miles!). Derek and Alison had to retire to the coast after a brave effort without a hood on their Triumph-based Gentry (MG Replica).

On we went to Wheddon Cross to regroup before a great drive in better weather down the A396 valley to Blackcat. Then onwards down the Exe Valley to Tiverton in sunshine by now.

Dave Wilkinson was our pathfinder for the day in his super A35 and we all gave chase. Steve and Glenn in their Spitfires, Peter in the '47 Roadster, Joan in the Toledo, John in the 948 Herald, Sharon in her beloved '67 Beetle, George in a tidy Mini and Chris as backup in his '90 Prelude - well, it looks a bit like a TR7!

The next stage was on empty B roads, in perfect weather, to South Molton and finished at Aller Cross (Northgate Inn Restaurant) for an excellent carvery. From there we were on familiar roads up the Bray Valley, back to Blackmoor Gate and home to Ilfracombe.

The only incident was the Herald's first puncture since we got her. A great day for us all covering 97 miles.
